Green sea turtle stops to get a clean from a shoal of fish

This is the spectacular moment a turtle stops to get a clean from a shoal of fish in an underwater 'car wash'.

The Hawaiian green sea turtle floated in mid water while the almost luminous yellow tang fish busied themselves with the task of removing the algae from his body.

In a similar scenario to a normal car wash, the turtles take it in turns to swim into this make-shift 'cleaning station' for their daily wash.

Photographer Mike Roberts, 60, snapped the incredible picture while diving at Puako in Hawaii.

He said: 'The turtle is visiting a cleaning station of yellow tangs.

'This is a very common occurrence - the tangs hang out in the same area everyday and the turtles take turns floating mid water allowing the fish to work on all areas of his body.

'In this symbiotic relationship, the tangs eat by cleaning algae from the turtle.

'To some, the turtle doesn't look very pleased - it could be because turtles have hard mouths and cannot smile or he has only chosen to be here because it feels good.

'He obviously doesn't understand the importance of algae being removed so he is there for the massage.

'This particular shot is somewhat unique because the tangs usually congregate more around the shell rather than the head.'

Mr Roberts, from Maui, in Hawaii, has been diving since he was a boy and has developed an obsession with the sea over the years.

He said: 'I have played with photography most of my life but I have been very serious about it for about 12 years.

'My earliest memories of the world beneath the ocean surface, were of following my dad while he was spearfishing off the coast of Keawekapu on Maui.

'Now, over a half of a century later, I am scuba diving and my passion for the sea has become obsession.

'Much of my underwater photography is captured within a couple of miles of the same area I snorkeled with my father.

'The undersea world is still full of splendour and there are still new things to see on every dive.'- www.dailymail.co.uk

American Bullfrog VS an unlucky sparrow

Spectacular captures of the American Bullfrog preying on an unlucky sparrow. Growing up to a length of 20 centimeters or 7.9 inches, the bullfrog preys on any animal that it can overpower and stuff down its throat. Their stomachs have been found to contain rodents, small turtles, snakes, frogs including bullfrogs and birds of course.

Hero squirrel saves her baby from being eaten dog

They have a bit of a reputation for a vicious streak, but this dog certainly got more than it bargained for after pouncing on a baby squirrel it found on the ground.

Moments before the hapless baby would have been torn apart, these images show its mother appearing to leap off a nearby tree and attacking the surprised dog.

Using its sharp teeth and claws, the squirrel tore into its canine opponent and distracted it so the baby could escape to freedom.

It is unclear if the images have been edited, but the startled dog appears in considerable pain as the squirrel bites into its flank.

The surprise assault gives the baby squirrel just enough time to climb back up the nearby tree before its mother is thrown clear and escapes from the dog.

The baby squirrel appears to have fallen to the ground as it was being helped up the tree.

Spotting the helpless creature on the ground, the dog pounces and traps it underneath its front paws as it closes for the kill.

But it appears to have underestimated its diminutive opponent, as the brave mother squirrel clearly has no intention of letting her baby become dinner and rushes to its aid by jumping on the dog's head.

After the whirlwind attack the mother squirrel springs free of the dog and rushes her baby back up into the safety of the tree.

The frustrated dog is left sitting forlornly at the base of the tree as its prey escapes into the upper branches.

Hungry lion jumping on to the bonnet

What we see here, is a hungry lion jumping on to the bonnet of an open-topped truck, snarling straight into the faces of safari family. The amazing part is they just roar with laughter. Normally, placing stone-cold masochists on an illusion oriented blog makes no sense. But this close encounter of the furred kind is not all it seems. The trick is that apparently fearless wildlife watchers are actually safely protected behind a wall of reinforced glass. Only the front of the truck is placed inside the big cat’s territory.

You’ll have to agree with me on this one; from a certain angle it really looks as if the visitors are about to become lunch. This illusory installation is one of the main attractions at Werribee open range zoo near Melbourne, Australia. Spokesmen of the zoo said once:

"The cut-off Land Rover was stuck either side of the glass wall as a bit of fun and it’s proved a big hit – especially with the kids. Everyone wants to get their picture taken looking like they’re going to be eaten.”

Miraculous escape for duck shot through the head with nail gun

A duck had to undergo emergency surgery after surviving for several days with a 4in nail embedded in its skull.

The bird, called Tully by vets, had been shot through the head with a nail gun.

But it took rescuers three days to capture the creature, who had the nail sticking out from both sides of its head.

The duck was then rushed for emergency surgery at a vets in Devon Meadows, Victoria, in Australia.

After giving Tully an anaesthetic, vets were able to remove the nail which had pierced his head just 4mm from an eye.

Nigel Williamson, 43, from Australian Animal Rescue, was eventually able to catch him after a concerned member of the public raised the alarm.

He said: 'Before trying to capture him I watched the duck to see what the situation was and he was just waddling around feeding, swimming and doing everything a duck should be doing with this nail in his head.

'He didn't seem bothered about it at all but in his healthy state it meant he was still very hard to get hold of.

'When we got him to the vets we found it had missed all the vital organs including his brain. We were able to get it out in about 15 minutes.'

He blamed 'mindless yobbos' for the cruel attack.

Mr Williamson added: 'We don't know who did it but we see a lot of these kind of bizarre injuries when the schools break up for holidays. It might have been kids.

'It really is just a blatant act of senseless cruelty. It's hard to believe anybody would want to do something like this. Fortunately he is making a great recovery.'
